Two wheels make a world of difference.

Many non-profit organizations are committed to getting bikes in the hands of local peoples in hard to reach areas.

So, what makes globalbike unique...

We invest in women-led bike rental businesses that foster mobility equity in rural communities.

Women-run bike rental services free women from gendered barriers to bike access, by eliminating the need to negotiate with men for bikes that are owned in the community.

Bike rental businesses create affordable access to bikes for the 50% of rural populations who cannot afford to buy a bike nor fund the ongoing maintenance costs for a bike alone, but who, with access to affordable rental bikes, increase their incomes by 25-57% and efficiently access water, health care, and education.

We invest in life-changing women's businesses that reinvest in the community continually.

Women’s economic empowerment not only lifts up women but also benefits their children and the entire village.

Women who earn money by managing bike rental and repair businesses gain financial security and report increased feelings of confidence and respect in their community.

Meet Neema.

globalbike first trained Neema in bike mechanics in 2016. She now works as a mechanic servicing rental bikes and as a peer trainer at other globalbike programs.

We invest in a long-term self-sustaining solution, not a one-time act of charity.

We help women build businesses that can stand on their own while meeting community needs.

Using marketing research to understand local economies, we help women develop bike businesses that can cover costs and earn profits while ensuring that local people can afford bicycles to improve their lives and economic status. We ensure that the value of the bikes can be maintained over time.

We invest in local ownership.

All business processes, costs and decision-making are fully owned by women and women's groups.

With an initial investment of capital, mechanic training, and business tools, we help women develop sustainable businesses.

Empowering women

We empower women to learn bike mechanics and business skills, so that they can maintain bicycles and bike programs over time.

Increasing access to resources

We use the affordable and sustainable power of bikes to greatly increase rural access to resources and economic growth.

Maximizing impact

We partner with women’s groups and NGO partners who are already making an impact so that we can maximize our efforts and not waste resources.
