Zambia

globalbike's first project started in Zambia in late 2006, when the founding board members bought 10 bikes. After seeing the transforming power of the bikes, board members began to share the stories and the concept caught on. Currently, Zambia boasts the largest concentration of globalbikes, with over 270 bikes in operation today.

  1. Community care workers use globalbikes to care for children orphaned by HIV and AIDS
  2. Community school teachers use globalbikes to work with children who cannot afford government schools or are too far away
  3. Peer educators use globalbikes for transportation to provide vital services to keep young people safe from HIV/AIDS.

globalbike provides important access to services and healthcare that is often unavailable in Zambia. Bikes make the work of care givers more effective and efficient, allowing them to go farther, see more patients, and carry much more weight. Before receiving three globalbikes, one health clinic in Lusaka was seeing only 250 patients. Now they see over 1200 families. That's three sets of two wheels, and a world of difference for over ten thousand people.
