In rural Tanzania, bicycles are essential tools for daily life — saving time, increasing productivity, and expanding access to markets, healthcare, and education. Demand for affordable bicycle rentals is strong, but starting an asset-based business is risky without capital, credit, or a safety net.
Many women cannot afford to purchase bicycles outright or absorb the cost of repairs if something breaks. Income is often seasonal and invested in crops, livestock, or shared through informal community lending, making cash hard to access when it’s needed most.
That’s where globalbike comes in.
Micro-Renting Services
Instead of loans, globalbike places bicycles with pre-vetted women entrepreneurs through recoverable, asset-as-a-service agreements. Women earn income by renting bikes, while globalbike manages the systems that reduce financial risk, including:
Business and micro-enterprise training
Bicycle sourcing and delivery
Mobile repair coordination and maintenance
Cash-flow management and subscription systems
Each micro-renter:
Earns enough to replace her bicycles every five years
Generates supplemental income, exceeding average personal income in partner communities
